We are into our third week of daily spanish classes. As we predicted John and I have horrible accents and our teacher is always correcting how they speak. Aiden's pronunciation is the best, though his vocabulary is the most limited at this point. We suspect he will begin to catch on very quickly as he is becoming a little more interested in trying to speak. Bronwyn is the best, she has had two spanish courses in high school and so has an advantage over the rest of us, and also has the best understanding.
Our teacher's name is Almu and she is very energetic and dramatic. This is important because as she is speaking in Spanish the whole time she may need to act out some words that we don't understand. Thankfully this is happening less this week than last. She is very interested in the weather in Minnesota, amazed at how cold it can get there. She can't even imagine what it would feel like to have a high of 32 F , it seems so cold to her.
When we are out and about we still have a very hard time understanding what people say, they talk so fast. But, we are catching words here and there and we are very pleased when that happens.
Tomorrow, one of the conversations will be around the latest soccer game. FC Barcelona is playing a big soccer game tonight and we will need to know the score so that we can talk about the game in class. Everyone in Barcelona loves their soccer team! We tried to get tickets, but like the Minnesota Wild, they are always sold out.

Hello Deen's! Just read all of your blog posts; great fun to read! Thanks for keeping us up to date. We're slogging thru March and waiting for warmer weather, but arctic air is going to find us this weekend yet again! Take care...Susan Brown
Hi guys,
I'm enjoying your comments about life in Spain! We just got back from a week in Rome and found many similarities... the schedule seems the same - very late dinners, and big midday breaks. You can't really find a restaurant open until 8:oo. Also food everywhere (trattorias, etc). We stayed in an appartment two blocks from the Colosseum and pretended to live like a local. Loved learning about the history of ancient Roma - forum, colosseum and even spent a day in Pompei. Traffic was crazy. We had a half day layover in Amsterdam on the way home and took the train into the center. Saw the Anne Frank House - great!. The contrast with the number of bikes on the roads was spectacular (as opposed to motorinos) and the bike park at the central station had over 3,000 bikes!!!! We miss you and look forward to your return! Our email is lisdc@comcast.net
