Now that we have been here for a while we have gotten into a grocery routine. I quickly got tired of having to do the grocery store every day to stock up on something that we ran out of. John has scoped all the bakeries out, and varies the bakery depending on the type of bread we want that day for breakfast. I used to go to the local market about once a week, but one really needs to able to communicate well with the vendor to guarantee good produce. After receiving horrible produce, I decided I needed to find a market where I could pick my own produce. Luckily there are some. We have narrowed our shopping down to three major stores; a meat shop, grocery store and fruit and vegetable shop.
Meat: One needs to go to this meat shop early, because by mid day most of the shelves are empty. There are many choices from your typical sausages to rabbit, duck, sheep, lamb and chicken. The fresh noodles at this store are also great.
Groceries: Mainly beverages are bought at this shop: drinking water, juices, coffee, wine and beer as well as some staples like eggs, oil, butter, canned food and great ice cream.
Fruit and Vegetables: This is my favorite store, it is long and narrow and always busy. The produce is great! Our current favorites are strawberries for about 1$/pound and pineapple which varies from 2 for 1 Euro to .60$/pound. There are always many oranges and lemons. The lettuce is huge and inexpensive, .75 E for one head and also my favorite, black olives. Even with a grocery cart, grocery shopping takes a couple of hours as our shopping cart needs to return to be unloaded between stores.

Lieve Ep en Diny en (klein)kinderen,
Ik houd het kort omdat dit wordt gepubliceerd; Jan H. is overleden.
Ik heb een email gestuurd naar je canadese adres.
Met hartelijke groet en liefs,

Wow, shopping sounds like quite a chore! But I would give anything to get good produce at those prices! I just paid $3/lb for grapes and $4/lb for strawberries. The grapes were good but the strawberries only so-so. Lettuce is about $2 a head and not very good.
