Greetings from Barcelona
We arrived on January 25 after an uneventful flight from Toronto through New York and spent the last couple of days settling in to the city. Our apartment is a block from the old city's bohemian district called Raval, and is situated in an area of large blocks called Eixample.
Ours is a long narrow apartment from our street, called Sepulveda, to a central courtyard filled with small terraces. We have a bakery, vegetable and fruit stand, butcher and various restaurants on our block. We also have they large market a few blocks down the road, and subway stop around the corner. We are well situated to wander and learn about the city. So far we have checked out the old city and the ocean, as well as going to church in a northern suburb and then going up a "mountain" called Tribidabo and visiting a temple overlooking the city (the temple is surrounded by an amusement park, as you may notice in the picture).
So today we start our schooling, with all of us working on our lessons. We still have some work in the apartment, particularly setting up our Internet - we will be working out of an Internet café for now, so these notes may start out a bit spotty....
John
